C&C Yuri's Revenge - Windows 8, Windows 10 Fix

The following should fix the functionality of Yuri's Revenge on Windows 8 and Windows 10. Please follow the instructions in this thread.
Note that this fix should work with the Origin version of Yuri's Revenge as well. Although the ALT+TAB functionality does not work.


1. Download the files needed to apply the fix from below.

2. Install the compatibility database by opening it's folder and double clicking the file called "Double Click Me".

3. Copy the game files from their folder (that is named "game files") into the folder that you installed your game in.

4. Apply the compatibility settings to all of the .exe game files as shown in the image "compatibility settings".



 
5. Try to run the game (ra2md.exe). If the game doesn't run, post back with the following format.

the files in the zip are corrupt. doesnt work

I just downloaded it again and it works fine for me. Try downloading again.

You can also try using a free-ware utility such as PeaZip to extract the contents.

Runs fine on Windows 10 here with just the files, not the compatibility settings which in fact break the game for me? :S

 

While I do get a few more resolutions, it only goes up to 1280x, no option for 1920x

I did patch the game's exe to allow all resolution options without restrictions.

So the problem must be on your side, seeing as mine goes all the way up to 1680x1050.

 

Thanks for posting back, the above fix ain't meant for as a one size fits all,

all system configurations are different so it's seemingly impossible to create a fix that works with all of them.

In time with future Windows updates these fixes should become redundant.

I'm using the XWIS multiplayer releases with music, campaign scenarios and movies inserted from my discs.

The same thing happens in RA2, but your Red Alert 2.exe is modified to run in borderless windowed mode when using the -win parameter, essentially meaning that if you put your maximum screen resolution in RA2.ini, it will seemingly look like fullscreen. YR doesn't have this, could you incorporate that as well?
 
BTW, some other differences between your RA2 and YR installers is that YR doesn't include the music or the standard .exes (fixed by this compatibility solution). Just sayin'.

The problem here is your Intel HD Graphics.
It's been known to cause issues with C&C classics.

Red Alert 2.exe is modified with that feature by Olaf, not by me.
He made the installers, so please direct any requests for features to him.

Both of the fixes(ra2/yr) have the same features applied.

Hi everyone,

 

 

I'm running Windows 10. I got my game Red Aler2 and Yuris Revenge through http://xwis.net/forums/index.php/topic/177134-downloads/ The game will launch, but the screen is frozen. I have audio, and when I try to click on the menu buttons, they do work, but after clicking a couple of time on the buttons the game quits automatic. Probably a problem of the graphic/video. And yes i did change the compatibility mode "Windows XP (SP3)".

Please, any thoughts?

 

No Problems with Ra2 though.

The fixes are set up the same way for RA2 & YR. 

So I can't help you.

What worked : 

- ra2md.exe - shows "You must run the game from its install directory"

- gamemd.exe - works in windowed mode but doesn't respect the resolution value so it just loads in the original size.

 

What didn't : 

- If I try to run it outright, it just loads without the menu.  Seems to have more luck in windowed mode.

- There is no C&C fix shown in my installed programs though.  I've tried running the double click me file as admin and same thing.

 

System specification : 

- Intel Core i3

- 4 GB ram

- Intel HD Graphics

 

 

I guess if I can fix the resolution in windowed mode, I'd be fine with that. Also what is the point of this game's multiple .exe files? Why did they do it and how come some people have luck with different .exe files?  Was one of these supposed to be the original launch file?

yuri.exe is a copy-protection feature that acts as the game's launcher and gamemd.exe is the actual game engine/executable. 

Yuri's Revenge.exe is the XWIS patched executable that contains the AutoSS (anti-cheat) and maps patch.

Hi, I just created an account to say thank you!

 

Over the years I've purchased all the original games (lost most of those discs), the First Decade and the Ultimate Collection.

 

I haven't played these games in a long time, I guess not since upgrading to Windows 10.

 

Just yesterday I was craving some RA2 and Yuri's Revenge and discovered that the games didn't work anymore.

 

RA3 works but it's just not the same.

 

With the help of this thread, I got my games back!

 

They run flawlessly at 1920x1080. Actually, they ran fine at 3840x2160 but everything was so small I needed to bump up the size.

 

The only other thing I had to do was install the fixed TUC launchers linked in another support thread.
