In Topic: How to play as Allieds vs. Sovs
26 June 2012 - 10:52 AM
So I've played a lot of good allied players this month. I've noticed three major styles they have when playing a soviet player like myself.
1. The Piners style - This is what I noticed from a top player like Frank/Piners/Gravity. To me, this is the most elite style. The style takes the best skill and makes me say, Wow, GG man, you are great.
What he does is attack nonstop, with splits, rockies, harriers, essentially crippling opponents. (http://xwis.net/ra2/games/25396/) He wins with excellent TC and almost never techs vs. the soviet player, he beats them at their own game by being better.
2. The 'Anything' Style. This is the style from whomever Anything is. He is very prone to a rush (http://xwis.net/ra2/games/35860/) and generally makes an attempt to tech up and hide behind pillboxs and mirages. He cripples the opponent by using navy and air to the point where the soviet cannot keep up. He annoys the opponent enough, but not as much as the piners style. This is more of a camp and wait to tech up to where you have an instant win situation (http://xwis.net/ra2/games/35846/). This takes skill, maybe not as much as the Piners style, but not as lame as my next installment.
3. The itsam style. Know your maps, do anything to kill the MCV and war fac and any possible flak traks and than non stop rockies. BASE TRADE! This is easily the lamest style, and takes the least amount of skill. You avoid the tank fight at all cost and use allieds speed and air to gain an auto-win situation. You attempt to kill the enemys mcv as soon as possible along with their war fac and you sit back and let your rockies do the remainder. Many times itsam has used his tanks to target my flak trak in a tank fight only to relieve himself for a few moments while his other tanks are softly killing my war/mcv. There is no tc involved and no skill. To me, it's lame, but it works and is hard to defend against.
In my opinion, if you are an allied player and are not incorporating one of these strategies, you are not setting yourself up to win vs. a soviet player. An example I take is BigD. This is a player who doesn't seem to belong to any of these strategies and I find very easy to beat. The one game he did win on me (http://xwis.net/ra2/games/33569/) was because I accidently base traded him allowing he to set up the rockies itsam death scenerio.
Another player of interest is Marsh. While I have not played him too much recently, in the past he was somewhat of a mix between piners and itsam. Generally more of a piners style player, but is willing to do the dirty itsam trick when needed.
Anyway, thought id open up my perspective for thoughts. It's always good to hear ra2 philosophy.
I hope best Sovs vs best ALLieds game or know who is best allieds.
