String Error Red Alert 2 + Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge Vista The Fi

28 December 2007 - 12:38 PM

Hi

I was wondering if there is anyway of fixing the first decade, so all the games work on vista.

System requirements labs say my machine is more then qualified to run command and conquer the first decade.

EA well they were absolutely useless (as expected).

I have the first decade installed on a vista operating system.

Vista home basic and vista business edition both yield the same results.

Command and Conquer - The Game Works.
Red Alert 1 - The Game Works.
Tiberean Sun - One or more DLL files were missing or damaged. Please reinstall.
Renegade - The Game Works.
Red Alert 2 + Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge - Fatal String Error.
Generals - The Game Works.
Generals Zero Hour - The Game Works.

Tiberean Wars - The Game Works.

I have reinstalled numerous times with failure of it working, I have tried running in compatibility mode for:
Windows Vista.
Windows Xp.
Windows ME.
Windows 98.
Windows 95.

I have Command and Conwuer The First Decade Patch 1.02 Installed.

The game disc is not damaged and it is not due to the hardware on the computer, as I have a small partition on my hard drive with windows XP Professional Installed, All components of the game run fine.

I have "Sold Out" Red Alert 2 Disc - One is snapped in half but the other is fine, installing that on vista, Red Alert 2 Ran Fine.

So it is a conclusion that EA have made a bad job of thier complication disc, and are doing nothing to support Vista.

I have some of the older discs up in my loft, but I do not have all the missions for Red Alert 2 and have lost my Yuri's Revenge Disc, therefore I cannot play that and that is my favourite game.

I mean it isn't that much of a big issue as I can go on Windows XP partition and play it but was just wondering if anyone knew of a fix.

Thanks in advance.

For Irony there is the results of the system requirements lab from the EA website.
Note the following
Operating System
Recommended: Windows XP
You Have: Microsoft Windows Vista Professional (Build 6000) PASS

And it puts Vista as above recommended.

Fetching Server List

17 February 2007 - 09:13 PM

When I load up redalert 2, Yuri's revenge or tiberean sun, to play internet battles, it works very occasionaly, however most times it says fetching server list and then it just stays like that and can't get an online game because it never fetches the server list, I have set my firewall to allow the games but is there anything else I need to do to enable the game to run, any other settings to be made with the firewall, or anything else?

Internet Freeze

23 June 2006 - 02:34 PM

Hi peoples

I was wondering if you could help me with a problem....

In command and conquer red alert 2, during random points in an online game my internet freezes. The internet icon at the bottom right of my computer says its still sending and recieving information, however no internet applications say the internet is connected. The modem worked fine with red alert 2 on another laptop, so there aren't any problems with the modem. I have messed around with my antivirus software and sent a post to them for help, however i have done all the steps the online technician told me to and the problem still persists, so he deduced that the problem isn't due to my mcAfee antivirus, maybe it was and he didnt have a clue what i was on about but any ideas why this happens. I have taken steps such as reinstalling the game and the internet but was no use. The internet dosen't freeze all the time only when I've been playing on red alert 2, it has never froze with other internet applications only during random time intervals in an online game usually when im about to blow someone up and they have like a flak cannon left and nothing else... Ironic isn't it. Also the green bars remain filled on the disconnect screen on red alert 2 saying someone else has been disconnected, when clearly everyone else is connected, and then nothing works except the game ends saying i was disconnected from the server. There are no internal errors or reconnection errors and the game continues to work fine normally, however i need to remove my modem and plug it in to the computer in order to go online again. I think thats all I've got to say if i say anymore, I'll just be moaning more probibally. Red alert 2 online is an amazing game (when it works) :)

Oh and thanks if anyone reads or answers this
