Most people moved on to CnCNet. XWIS is, unfortunately, pretty baron. You can still access the XWIS server if your serial is still active, otherwise, EA Play/Origin version of the game, then install the WOL Internet Components into the game folder.

https://xwis.net/dl/WOLAPI-0.0.0.exe

Use the XWIS Client to set the IP to the XWIS server: https://xwis.net/dl/XWISC.exe

There is a number of helpful topics that are pinned in the support forum. Check those out if you haven't already.

If you have the Origin version of the game, there is a helpful topic about that too.

lol Rizla that old dog...  :rizla: he gave me a few warnings too  :D

I really think this site should revive too. I'm considering to play some on XWiS, for pure nostalgia of the original user interface, but when I see all the lobbies are empty I get over it   :crybaby:

2005-2007 were the best years  :bye2:

Yeah I remember. Unfortunately back then because I used to live in the same house as my foster brother we had the same IP and he had his PC in his bedroom upstairs and mine was downstairs. He had that Groza trainer on his PC during tournies but at the time I had no idea. And because I had no idea he cheated and because I was in his clan I eventually got banned too, even though I didn't have a cheat on my computer. We didn't share nicks/serials. I had my own. It was a bit of a kick in the face considering I enjoyed playing back then and I got penalised for his cheating.

Even though me and Olaf had a word via PM about it I've been allowed to remain and continue access to XWIS using my Origin/EA RA2 serial.

I wish we could some how revitalise interest in XWIS. Get people to join us in a little "event" where we host an 8 player game etc. To make it more fun, no rush. If anyone thinks this is a good idea, let me know and we could discuss it in Player's Lounge and set something up.

WOW,

Long time no see NSanity.

Hope your doing well...

:rizla:

Hey, Niek, I've been well thanks. How've you been? How was your xmas and new year?

Excellent ironic choice of emote at the end as I'm smoking a joint right now. :smoke:

Do a fresh install of Ra2/YR from EA.

Install CnCNet Client.

Right after, download and install the XWiS Ra2 Multiplayer from the downloads section on this forum, overwriting the original installation on the same folder.

This used to work for me before.

Cheers

EDIT: I just realized that the Ra2 XWiS download link is broken, it's giving 404 error. Has something gone wrong Olaf?

I kinda removed CNCNet specifically because I wanted to play classic RA2 on the XWIS server again after having CNCNet for a long time. It just doesn't really give me the satisfaction of RA2 anymore because I miss having to go into the lobby. Shame the channel bot isn't active, seeing "XWISAdmin" at the top of the channel player list would've* been a perfect addition to my nostalgia of 2007-XWIS.  :D I still remember clearly my first chat ban given by Mr. Rizla (riz).

CnCNet YR by default uses cnc-ddraw as renderer and that causes the game to crash with an Internal Error when you try to log in. The easiest way to fix this is to run "game.exe" as administrator and in Windows 8 compatibility mode:

yy7TM8E.png

Same thing should apply to YR, Olaf's removed distribution of YR uses "Yuri's Revenge.exe" to run, if you have installed the game via the EA app, applying these compatibility settings to "YURI.exe" should be enough

It's worth mentioning that you should also install the XWIS distribution of RA2 after installing the game from the EA app because the Internet components used by the original game will cause the game to get stuck at the log in screen after entering your nickname and password

I uninstalled CNCNet tbh.

I used the XWIS Client and the WOLAPI installer from the Downloads on ST (here) to get access to the XWIS server. It finally worked but if I join or create a game my ping is 1000+ after a minute of being "0ms". I also used "CnCGraphicsPatch".
