Hi,
I wanted to play CnC gold online (I bought The First Decade, in which CnC 1 is included)
A realized that I need some program - Westwood chat wchat to play online. So I found this website with tips to run, but it doesnt work to me :( I downloaded WC4221E.EXE, that is necessary to play online. I have Win XP and this file cannot be open in it! I think it is made for DOS. So I had ran Dosbox and emulated DOS, that this file was repacked to some other files - Install.exe, and setup.exe likely most important. But this files cannot be run under Win XP and DOS as well! So is there any possibility to play CnC gold on Win XP. Please help :(

Why can't it run on your XP? What error messages do you get?
It runs fine on my XP.

Ok,
When i click on WC4221E.EXE "16bits subsystem MS-DOS" window appears, with message :

"C:\DOWNLO~1\WC422~1.EXE.
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT System file cant be used by applications MS-DOS and/or Microsoft Windows, choose close to close the window."

I translated that from Czech lenguage, so it can be little different in English versions, but the meaning remains the same.

You (probably) aren't if you don't know. I've no idea what causes the error message in that case.

In that case something is wrong with your system.

But could you try to download http://xwis.net/downloads/Westwood_Chat-4.221.exe?

Can I second that!

I had downloaded the wchat from westwood's ftp, and I wasn't very successful in getting it running. It looks like a DOS box at first simply because it's an old SFX executable. I extracted it manually, then ran the resulting setup.exe. Installed etc, but at first when I ran WCHAT.EXE it crashed with a registry error about InstallPath. So I hacked in an InstallPath registry entry. Then it began crashing out with the standard windows error message. So I renamed that out and renamed WCHAT.DAT to .EXE and ran that. It ran and I could type in my name and hit connect, but it would then say something along the lines of "registry settings are in error, cannot continue" and quit.

I downloaded the archive you linked to up there and ran it. Installed right over the top, runs fine, no errors. Well, thanks!
