Future for bugged TS? I mean no admin bothered to fix the auto-ss thing. Remember Auto-SS was launched in April 2013, with hope of improving xwis server  experience, but guess what happened? An even more bugged ts. Some players wanted to donate if the admins would fix or improve the server. But as expected nobody cares.

Really? How much do these lot amount to? A few TS players going to CnCNET... Big deal. XWIS is not the problem. Upgrade your connection and the speed will improve, but if you play some one on the other side of the planet you will still get a delay. There's improvements that can be done to the games to reduce the lag, but not to XWIS.

Whats the problem exactly?

Internal error when scrolling passed a diz shot or laser,

Games crashing after its finished,

being auto disconnected joining an 8 player game,

1/3 of ladder games not counting due to crashing games...

delay in game which seems to be eradicated on cncnet, (there is still lag on cncnet but zero delay interms of unit/structure creation and placement)

Xwis is the home of Tiberian Sun and like in all family's one day the kids will come back home,

Lagg is nothing to do with Xwis and if you believe it is you really need your head tested,

once a game goes into play we (The Players) are connected to each other only and any lagg is due to players either on a bad internet connection,

downloading while in game or like in most houses 3/4 computers all streaming tv/video/movies.

There is a patch to fix laser/Dizz ie which Xwis have in there download section,

You can also turn the graphics display to 0 in your own game settings which reduces it more.

I am not to keen on admin but you cannot blame them of Olaf for how your version of Tiberian Sun plays out,

Sort the problems out your end and stop moaning.

Finally Auto ss does have a few teething issues but clever players have worked a way round this,

Firstly you don't need auto ss in ffg (For Fun Games so install a separate copy without auto ss on your system,

It takes seconds to switch between the 2 versions so if you are offered a torny swap to the auto ss version

or if you are old school take a few normal screen shots during the game making sure fog is in your main window not just in mini map.

This is a 14 year + game so take advice and do the following

1. keep note of known laggers and keep them out your game = fast gaming

2. While playing for a hour of 2 ask family members if they mind not downloading.

3. Show a little loyalty to Xwis for many years hosting Tiberian Sun.

And nobody talking about leaving XWIS. As for cncnet.org, they've definitely put alot of work to make sure gameplay is better than xwis.

Quality post, exactly how it is.

They have indeed, patched the game and are still working on it's patches to fix known bugs and improve lag reduction.

It's possible to use the same fixes on XWIS too. Though in terms of lag everyone always blames the opposing player or the server not themselves.

The only fix that can be used by XWIS is the Windows 8 fix which somehow still isn't done. I haven't worked on patching Tiberian Sun in two weeks and there isn't much needed anymore except for ladder and quick match support, which are out of my hands. FunkyFr3sh also still needs to add the build off ally game option the CnCNet 5 program but he's too busy doing stupid shit for Dune 2000's total online player base of 20 players.

Lag isn't an issue when there's an actual player base. At the moment because of the small player pool one lagging player can taint the whole experience on the online service.

The online TS player base has grown by about 100-150% in the last three weeks but it's still very small so that doesn't say that much. A lot of players also host passworded games only, for some reason.

A lot of players also host passworded games only, for some reason.

Usually people move to networks in groups. A friend tells a friend.. etc.

I hope that in the future people get more educated on the topic of connection problems and latency, as they keep blaming each other with no insight.

The players connect like this.

Player A

  • to Player B
  • to Player C
  • to Player D

Player B

  • to Player A
  • to Player C
  • to Player D

Player C

  • to Player A
  • to Player B
  • to Player D

Player D

  • to Player A
  • to Player B
  • to Player C

As you can see above each of the players forms 3 direct two way connections. To send / receive data.

The server only hosts the lobby, so you can find other players and host your own mini lobby for your game.

Once you click start, the game forms the above mentioned direct connections.

Like Iran said, if one of the players lags or has connection problems then all of the players will are affected.

Most network equipment nowadays needs to best up properly and the casual user usually doesn't know how to.

This has nothing to do with vague 'network equipment', you just need to have a low ping to google.com 99% of the time. Which means you shouldn't be sharing connections with people downloading stuff and not doing this yourself.

On CnCnet 5 there's this Pakistani player who lags because his internet is shit and he lives far away from the other players, if there were more TS players that wouldn't be that much of an issue cause you could use the anti-lag option when hosting while still having more than enough players who are able to join your game.

The more players there are the less of an issue it is, it isn't much of an issue for RA1 except for the retards who play with people they know lag.
