The patch downloads in game and says 'Ra2 will now restart to install the patch'.
It then goes to desktop and no installation box comes up.
The Ra2 icon stays in the taskbar but does not respond.

Downloaded the patch straight from this website, installed fine.
Now says version 1.006, but says still requires patch to play online.

Any help would be appreciated.

edit: tried reinstalling Ra2 and installing patch from this website first, same problem.

Cheers man I tried it, but still no luck.

I think it's something to do with the red alert directory being read-only, as the game continues to play the opening movie every time.
Right clicking and going to properties, then unclicking 'read-only', says 'you need to provide administrator permission to change these attributes'.
I only have 1 user on this laptop, which is set to administrator.

Any ideas?

open ra2.ini in ur installation folder, find the text [Intro] and below that the line "PlayIntro=yes" and change it to "PlayIntro=no"
try disabling uac or run ra2.exe as administrator

Thanks again, but I can't see anywhere to disable uac. Although, I'm the only user and I'm an administrator.
Running ra2.exe in administrator brought up the 'fatal string error'.

I mentioned the intro movie playing every time because if the game can't be written to to turn off the intro movie, maybe it can't be written to to be patched properly either?

Have there been any reported problems when running windows 7?
