1.007 King of the Hill
What is a "King of the Hill" Tournament?
King of the Hill is completely distinct from the standard 1.007 Tournaments, it is not a knockout tournament.
King of the Hill is an endurance tournament in which players compete to take and hold the Hill and be crowned King.
One player is the King and other players take turns challenging him for his crown each round.
If they lose the King gains points, if they win they become the new King and the old King is deposed.
This tournament will take place over 5 weeks and there will be 3 rounds a week. The winner will be the player who has held the crown longest overall and thus gained the most points (see points table below). Also, the player who ends the competition holding the crown will be awarded bonus points.
Rules and Playing
- Each round challengers sign up to face the King, they do this by checking the schedule (see below) then posting in this topic. Challengers shouldn't sign up for rounds that have more than 4 sign ups already. You can sign up for any one of the next three rounds (any round currently in the schedule in other words).
- The first two people to sign up to play in a round will face each other in a best of 3 Heat. The winner of this Heat then faces the King. Remaining signees will be substitutes in case someone pulls out.
- You may not challenge the King more than once a week (once every 3 rounds in other words). Playing in a Heat does count as challenging the King (even if you lose and don't get to face him) but being substitute in a round (and not getting to play) obviously does not.
- You can't use a country more than once per match (although you can use Soviet or Allies or both in a round without restriction).
- I will be obsing games as in the standard 1.007 Tournaments and probably recording them too (I haven't yet decided whether I'll be recording the Heats).
Points
The King earns the points every time he successfully defends his crown. The table below shows the total points the King gets for x number of consecutive successful crown defences. Players may have multiple reigns as King, in this case the points totals from each reign are added together (so a player who reigned twice, once for 2 weeks and once for 4 weeks, ends the competition with 8 points).
Defences | Points
1 | 0
2 | 2
3 | 4
4 | 6
5 | 8
6 | 10
7 | 12
... And so on. You'll notice the points gained per defence increases as time goes on (so two reigns of 3 weeks each earn less points than one continuous reign of 6 weeks).
In addition the final King (essentially whoever is holding the crown at the end of the last round) is awarded 4 bonus points.
How do I Play?
1) Read all the information above!
2) Check the schedule for when upcoming rounds are being played (and check you're available at the approximate time and date - use Windows clock if you aren't sure what timezone you are, it will tell you).
3) Sign up to challenge the King in a round, then give the following info:
- Nickname you'll be using.
- MSN/e-mail account you can be contacted at.
- Your timezone (or country/state if you aren't sure, although you really should know!).
- The date of the round you wish to play in (e.g. Friday 10th).
4) You sign up again each time you want to challenge the King (remember you can't play more than once a week).
5) I will update the schedule whenever I can (check the update timestamp). Contact me on MSN or PM if there are any problems.
