I've poked around for a while now looking for a solution and can't seem to find anything. First, I tried my original disks for RA2 and YR on my XP SP3 VM  and the installs went fine, but I wanted to remove the disk dependency. I Googled and found the downloads for the MP versions on this website. Loaded RA2 and gave it the CD .mix files so I could play the full game. I modified the INI so the resolution was fixed as well. Everything worked great.

I got sick of regular RA2 and decided to install YR. In the past, installing YR from the disk never let me play the regular RA2 anymore for unknown reasons and that's why I waited to install it this time. I used the multiplayer download from XWIS to streamline the process and allow me to not use the disks. All installed well, it seemed, and I copied the .mix files from my YR disk to have the full game again.

I noticed the installer from this site did not give me a gamemd.exe or an ra2md.exe. When I launch the "Yuri's Revenge.exe" from the directory or use the start menu shortcuts, the game appears to try and start (the screen goes black) and then it goes right back to the desktop. I don't see any log files in the game directory as to what is happening. There's no RA2MD.ini to delete for troubleshooting. For the sake of trying, I copied the gamemd.exe and others from my YR disc and ran it only to be told that I need to run the game from its install directory. It must be looking for the WW installer reg keys?

I'm not sure how to proceed as I'm on XP and am the admin by default so there's no compatibility tricks to try. Any thoughts? Much appreciated

FYI: I also followed these steps, except for the win8/10 patch, and I cannot proceed as gamemd.exe doesn't exist when I explicitly follow these steps. https://forums.cncnet.org/index.php?topic=6327.msg46419#msg46419
