Hey guys.

Has anyone ever attempted to connect to XWIS by tethering to their personal hotspot? I have to connect my MacBook to my iPhone Personal Hotspot as my Mobile WiFi isn't working. (For some reason it just won't show any wireless network even though SSID is enabled in the settings/admin panel) I've tried myself but I get a red ping icon and it keeps disconnecting after "Connecting to other players..." then boots me to the main Internet menu showing my ranking information.

I have also tried when on a 4g connection but didn't work for me. Didn't look into it much further but i know some people do play fine on 3/4g connections so should be a way to configure it.

maybe I can help, for a month or so I was using my Samsung galaxy to play on xwis, I had no lag thru my hotspot.....

i'm not sure how to do it from an iphone but with my android I did this

1.) set up my mobile tethering and hotspot

2.) created a password to said hotspot

3.) linked a usb cord from phone to computer

4.) connected via internet to my galaxy and thru the settings in the phone and computer

never had an issue with this and depending if I'm at a hotel or something and i'm using my laptop i'll use my hotspot over the free wifi because it's more secure

depending on your provider though, you usually have a limit of tethering data even though you may have unlimited data (this was the only issue I had with tethering) when my 4g lte tethering limit was reached my games went from 58-59 fps to 55-56 fps using just 4g internet.

Connecting to XWIS isn't the problem but you sure as hell can't play on a mobile connection. Even if you could, it doesn't mean you should. You'd only make yourself and other players suffer.

The solution is to ask a neighbor for WiFi (or something like a wire) in exchange for money, success rate depends on you as a person. Good luck with that, BTW.

Unfortunately where I am I don't have access to a cable connected Internet connection. My MacBook detects a Cloud WiFi network but it's too weak to connect to. There are a lot of BTWiFi SSIDs available but are either locked or open but require an "@btinternet.com" username and password to login with. I have neither.

Can't you buy one?

You can play ra2 on a 4g connection on xwis with no problems. 3g was playable but slightly laggy.

Buy a MIFI from 3 or EE.

Well 4g is faster then most internet connections!

Did you have any problems connecting to other players initially?

In Germany for most 3G providers (if not all) IP addresses are heavily shared between users. RA2 needs to hole punch to connect and I guess that's what stops them from connecting or even crashes the game.

Is it? What's typical ping time on 4G?

Latency(ping time) is entirely dependant on distance and the hardware/software configuration of the communicating computers and the servers in-between those computers.

For more information regarding Mobile Data Networks refer to : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_broadband

The main cause of problems for gaming over Mobile Networks is NAT.

Some Mobile Network Dongle Modems and phones have really poor NAT support.

Yes that would be nice to see ping results to xwis.net (@ 8 pm, lets say 1 minutes interval) and speedtest results not to the closest server using 4g (also @ 8 pm).

In that case you would know that the question doesn't really make sense.
Even on 56k dial-up from the middle of nowhere, the ping can be 50ms-100ms.

Don't know about ping times but 4g in my area has quicker download speeds then any available broadband connection.

Nice quote. So, what is 4G other than a hardware configuration? If you knew anything about this at all, you'd know that 3G, 4G, DSL do have typical ping times.

I'll give you a hint, ping times on 4G are substantially faster than on 3G with otherwise identical "distance and the hardware/software configuration of the communicating computers and the servers in-between those computers", yet they are definitely slower than with a solid wired connection.

That being said, ping times on 4G with excellent signal strength might only be 50ms longer than with DSL. Technically that's well playable but watch out for sudden disconnects or performance drops.
