Is there a way of playing online with bots with a friend, i dont mean the Co-Op mode, i mean the normal maps where you can choose the difficulty of the bots like you used to be able to do??

When you create a game, select a map and then choose from the list of "Open" slots. Change them to either difficulty.

 

EDIT: Once the game starts, press TAB and click your friends little circle to make an alliance with them.

I cant do this when i invite my friend in, the options are either open or closed, do you know why this is?

Make sure the map you choose is from the "Battle" category.

Also, make sure the map can hold more than 2 players.
