Hi, I have done a fresh install of Red Alert 2 on Win 10 Pro 64bit through origin. The game would only go as far as the first menu but without any buttons to press. I have now applied your patch and still have the same issue however now at higher resolution. I have not run any other patches for online.

Processor: Intel Q6600

Ram: 8GB

Graphics: Nvidia Geforce GTX750

Thank you in advance as i have tried lots before finding this forum (all wiped and freshly installed now)

I have a windows 10 64-bit Operating system/ 8 GB RAM/ Intel ® Core ™ i7-451OU.

I have followed your steps, and I was able to open the game and go to XWIS lobby smoothly.

Here is the thing; Once I host or join a room, the game starts to lag badly. It takes me 30 to 40 seconds just to pick a country or to change a map.

So, I thought of decreasing my resolution. My laptop resolution supports 1920, but I decided to go for 1366*768. However, I faced the same issue to a certain extent (slight improvement). Then I decided to put the resolution at 800*600 and the game became really fast.

Therefore, the issue is with the resolution. Even though I prefer playing at a 1920, 1680, or 1600, I still can't even play with 1366. It seems that only 1024*768 and below works which is very bad for clan and tournament games.

As much as I was glad that XWIS worked on windows 10, the resolution-lag issue makes it really terrible. Do you think you can find a fix for the lag? I play on Game Ranger and CNC net Yuri revenge  with a 1920 resolution and the game works perfectly fine.

Put this file in your RA2 game directory. https://www.dropbox.com/s/598uwf0diwwsthh/ddraw.dll?dl=0

I'm assuming that you have double checked all settings? That you've followed the guide per step.

Check your installed programs through control panel to see that the compatibility fix is installed correctly and make sure you don't have any 'ddraw.dll' in your game directory. If you've played on CnCNet before, chances are that you have TS-DDRAW in your game directory.

The lag is caused by TS-DDRAW (ddraw.dll) which the CnCNet Yuri's Revenge client adds to your game directory.

You should have two separate installations in two different directories if you want to play on both networks.

For CnCNET Yuri''s Revenge games and Game Ranger games, i have a Ra2 installed in the C-Drive. As for XWIS server, I installed the game from XWIS downloads and placed the files in the D-drive, ensuring no file-crossovers between both games. I only use Ra2 in C-Drive for CNC and GR games which is working smoothly.

After installing XWIS Ra2 and applying all your steps, I still wasn't able to see the menu. So I added this ddraw.dll file http://xwis.net/forums/index.php/topic/181364-win881-fix/ which helped me to solve the issue.

So if this ddraw.dll file is the reason for lag, it means that I won't be able to see the menu and access the game.

I wan't to play some tournament games but it seems this is a never-ending problem lol. I have a Windows 7 laptop but it supports low resolution, making it hard to play competitive games.

You should install the XWIS downloaded game into your program files(x86) directory on the main drive with your Windows installation.

It would seem that Windows 10 has problems with the game being installed outside of the program files directory, especially with regards to XWIS.

Hi again,

So to update, I have double checked everything and followed the steps to the letter, so far so good, one exception which is the suggestion to check the installed programs for the compatibility fix. I see nothing with this name or am not sure what i should see? Launching the game gave the same problem, menu screen, no animation of the radar and no menu options (grey boxes only).

Out of interest I tried dropping the ddraw file into the directory and when launched the game menus did appear and campaign would load, albeit with lots of lag and no online access.

At this point I removed the ddraw file as although things were working it wasn't as i had wanted. As a test I installed the online download from xwis downloads and launched again. Launching from origin put me back to no menus, launching direct from the xwis download launched the game with menus and no lag however no access to solo or online play.

This next part probably shouldnt have work but well,, it did. I uninstalled the game from control panel and deleted out any remaining files from the installation folder. I did not remove the xwis online version. Once reinstalled through origin I gave the game a try. To my amazement it loaded correctly with menus at the original resolution and both solo play and online working.

So now I'm not happy with the resolution I amended the RA2.INI and this messed various things up. Ultimately i used all of the files from the game files folder in the fix at the start of this thread with the exception of game.exe, RA2.exe, and RA2.INI which i left as the original install versions but left my amendment to the resolution in the RA2.INI

Launched the game and hallelujah all functioning. Well, I need to actually play an online game but i could sign in and connect and will report back when i play a game. I dont have the ability in options to change the game resolution but i have set one that i am happy with and you guys are much more proficient than me so hopefully my bumbling trial and error helps.

One last note is that I have installed and run all of the above from my D drive.

In your Control Panel's > Programs and Features you should see "C&C Red Alert 2 - Compatibility Fix" installed.

This is the part of the fix that makes the menus appear.

I suggest you install the XWIS Download version of the game into your program files directory, unzip the fix to an empty folder (so you don't lose any files), follow the steps to the letter and remember to use administrator rights for each step. You can copy the .mix files from the origin version at a later time, to enable single player content in your game installation.

Why are you so against installing it on your C drive? All that trouble to install on the D drive..

Hi,

Yeah non essential stuff doesnt go on my C drive. Its the way I want it as its not a massive SSD and have a separate drive for steam and origin libraries etc. I will check it all out properly tomorrow as I'm shattered tonight and if it is all working as it seems i will leave it as is. Or be back on trying more stuff lol. Interestingly the Compatibility Fix is definitely not showing in my installed programs but I will check it out further tomorrow. I bought the whole collection of games so I may be picking your brains a lot. This was just the first I had tried.

Thank again by the way.

I recall the last time I fixed something for you, it was the same case.

ill re do it for you. and how in the world would you remember if you fixed something for me lol i havent been on here in like 5 years

You have 2 different types of compatabilty images. One is completely different from the other one you posted on here....which one shall i use?

OKay so i used the image you posted on here, instead of the image in the folder.

I created a folder named Westwood.  C:\Program Files (x86)\Westwood i made sure i put it in the Programfiles x86

i then went to your folder, clicked the DOUBLE CLICK ME file.....and then CMD window popped up, i pressed a button, window disapeared.

i copy and pasted all of the files from your folder that says Game files.

Game Ra2 Red Alert 2 and MPH are all changed to Windows 7 compatibility mode. Reduce Color mode to 16 bit. Disable Scaling and admin mode.

i Run the Ra2.exe as you suggested and only the main menu skin appears, but i can click the side menus, and after i do they disapear
