The bot has continuously crashed (correct me if I'm wrong) and has been problematic for some time now. :/

I believe the new XWIS admin in the lobby is the xwis admin replacement that sean developed, but didnt finish before he left so only has limited capabilities. Not sure what happened to the old one.

bad to hear, any chance someone else finishes it or replace a new 1?

cuz correct me if im wrong, but you dont even get banned for swearing, but mainly i miss the !help commands, how to create clans, where to check for ladders etc.

or let me ask you differently, what capabilities does the current xwisadmin have except looking cool with his symbol?.

The current one is very limited, only use really is announcements and can make manual chat bans. And i'm not sure how much longer it is going to be around for either.

I hoped it could be finished by someone but i don't think there is anyone either willing or capable at the moment.

The spam gets especially annoying when players are trying to help new players. The spam is REAL.

Sorry, I was posting in general that there have been some people spamming and flaming in the lobby.

Unfortunately since Sean isn't working on the bot (as far as we know at the moment) the bot isn't going to function as it should. Hopefully someone takes over the redevelopment of the bot.

Oh wow, a JavaScript bot! I wonder who thought that was a good idea. Why don't you just bring back the old bot? Seemed to work well or did the JavaScript guy try to "improve" it before deciding to roll his own?

Yeah, I second that. Let Martin finish it. Will only take about 5 years. Are you serious?

Hacking of any kind, use of relay, any other bots, and third party tools in the lobby are forbidden on XWIS.
Admin may also take action against any players they consider to be abusing the server, or a threat to the server security.
Immediate and indefinite bans will be issued to any hacking, or security threats to XWIS, or anyone abusing the lobby in any way.

I thought making bots was forbidden. So why would anyone bother?

  • We don't have access to the original bot. I believe Laney created it without sharing.. and I think it was in mIRC Script. So ew..
  • My first rewrite was in PHP but, switched due to poor support for the direction I wanted to go. This version has a web interface so that staff no longer need to be in the game client to moderate though XWISAdmin.
  • Javascript allows me to leverage similar server-side and client-side code. Plus, it's my preferred language, so bugger off already.

I thought making bots was forbidden. So why would anyone bother?

Yes, using bots on the XWIS server is against the EULA; the only exception being XWISAdmin, which is controlled solely by staff. So instead of being a narcissistic prick, you could be helpful and contribute to the community by making XWISAdmin better. :)

So, am I XWIS staff? Put me on the payroll and I'll contribute...

Besides, you've used bots to harvest IPs of the players who opened game channels before. Why you didn't get perm banned for that is beyond me. This can be done easier, without the use of bots even. ;)

XWISAdmin could just as well be built into the server.

Well, that's not entirely true. I did not inject. I only accidentally stabbed my finger once, it actually caused the needle to bend. It's called a needlestick injury and it hurt very badly (the day was ruined)! http://i.imgur.com/mYH1Y1E.jpg

I never even remotely hinted toward that.

I was permbanned. However, namehiding/smurfing helped ruin TS online; from my perspective, I was helping more than hurting (and many others agree). However, it was blatantly against the XWIS rules and therefore shutdown so I could focused my efforts to help elsewhere. I'd like to think I earned my way back into XWIS and then XWIS Staff by doing so. Frankly, most of us have grown up and have completely different perspectives from our teenage selves.

XWISAdmin could just as well be built into the server.

Of course. XWISAdmin could be built a million different ways. The fact is, it's always been a bot - separate from the server. And thankfully, this affords many opportunities such as allowing others [rather than pinning it all on Olaf] to contribute. Honestly, we wouldn't even be having this conversation if I hadn't shared - my fault for trying to be transparent.
