I played some RA2 games recently and noticed that many players set up custom tournament games instead of quick matching. This is done for a variety of reasons.

Would it be possible to create a "map" that when selected in a custom match, would run a script to randomly pick a QM map and use it in the custom game?

This would allow an observer to be able to watch (and stream) games on randomly picked maps and would allow the players to not have to deal with the QM points filter but still experience something very close to QM.

Would be useful. Whether we have someone willing and able to create it is another issue.

Good idea, we should have a map named "Random" when you pick this map = randomly choose any map

i hope it would be possible

Can anyone actually make this happen? Seems like universal consent.

I think it may not even be too hard to implement. If both players would issue a command such as /randomqm in the channel then the server could send a GAMEOPT and STARTG line to both players. From what I remember, the 'host' gladly accepts whatever the server proposes :)

If it's just about the pointers filter there's a better way to solve this.

Hmm, could you verify that? :p

It's not just about the points filter. It's about letting an observer watch a qm game. playing clan matches on randomly chosen maps and perhaps even creating a different map pool for 2v2 clan match games.

That's the way I remember it too ([sadly] any source could do it). It'd be best to have the server do this but, it could actually be accomplished without it (albeit, against XWIS EULA).
