Hi all,

i) I've recently started playing on XWIS again after nearly a decade-long

hiatus and installed the CD version. After several requests to download

the XWIS version, given that it not only has the Auto-SS option, but also

all the new maps, I did and it was working until I downloaded the update.
Ever since, I've had to revert to the CD version of the game and that

limits my options substantially, as far as the maps are concerned.

When a game starts, it usually crashes within the first couple of minutes

with the "Red Alert 2 has encountered an internal error and is unable to

continue normally."

a) Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? I'm running

the game on Windows XP.

b) Should I not have downloaded the update?

c) Will reinstalling the game make a difference? (Haven't tried this yet

because I'm afraid it might interfere with the CD version)

ii) I've also been having connectivity issues of late - and for no apparent

reason too. I've been able to connect to, I'd say, roughly 90% of all games

these past couple of weeks but the last 3-4 days have been really frustrating.

Any ideas or suggestions as to why this may be happening and what I could

do to tackle this?

Any help would be appreciated. Looking forward to playing some ggs with

everyone on XWIS! Thanks!

I did and it was working until I downloaded the update.

So the XWIS version worked fine until you downloaded the update? What update would that be?
And what XWIS version did you install?

For your connection issues see: http://xwis.net/forums/index.php/topic/181749-troubleshooter/

I would start by reinstalling the XWIS version from this site. Not sure what update you are referring to.

What is "Red-Alert-2-Multiplayer-r0.exe" ??

You should only need the first one (the RA2 installer).

Try running the game's executables in "Windows 98 Compatibility Mode".

Any or all of the following (Ra2.exe, game.exe, Red Alert 2.exe, mph.exe).

If you still encounter the error then uninstall Red Alert 2 and reinstall only with this installer.

Nothing additional should be added unless you know what you're doing.

(with the exception of Yuri's Revenge or the unofficial patch).

Your hardware and drivers seem to be good.
Though to note that Q6600 is a Core2Quad CPU not duo.

RE: FReQuEnZy

So it turns out that I deleted the CD Version and installed the XWIS

version from the link you provided. Made sure all the executables

were running in Windows 98 Compatibility Mode and what's happening

now is, that as soon as the game's about to start (after the loading

screen with the two parallel bars), I get a blank, black screen and the

game never connects. This is getting increasingly frustrating but I

really want to be able to play all the new maps and get used to them.

What should I do?

Seriously considering deleting this and reverting to the CD version. At

least it's glitch-free, despite the limitations :|

Check Avast settings and add MPH.exe (and other exe's) to exclusions.
Most likely your firewall is blocking the above mentioned executable.

How ever for best game performance and issue free gameplay I suggest adding all of game's executable to exclusions.

Here's an official tutorial from Avast on how to do that : http://www.getavast.net/support/managing-exceptions

So I uninstalled the anti-virus and downloaded the installer. Everything was working fine. I needed the new maps so I downloaded Red_Alert-2-0.0.2.exe. As soon as I installed that patch, I started getting the internal error again 10 seconds into the game :(

If you are using the download link on this site there is no need to download the new maps. They are included.

Make sure you have ALL RA2 FILES deleted before you try re-installing anything. Having multiple RA2's installed can mess things up.

I don't know what's causing this, but this would be my advice.

1. DELETE ALL RA2 FILES, EVERYTHING

2. Download RA2 - http://xwis.net/forums/index.php/topic/177134-downloads/, click the red alert 2 multiplayer

3. DON'T DOWNLOAD ANYTHING ELSE

4. Start it up, you may have to wait a couple minutes when first starting it if your internet connection is slow (expect a black screen)

I'm assuming it was either (1) or (3) that has been giving you issues.
