Why are they jpg files?  The maps don't work.

I play from disc; is there a way to just get the map files?

It is quite easy to install the xwis version which also includes an anti cheating patch - this uploads screen captures from your game to the game stats page at xwis.net

You cannot play against others using those maps unless you have the xwis ra2

Is there any way to keep the skirmish mode if I download the mp-only game?  I like to use that to get to know the maps.

Don't answer that; I see skirmish is still available.  I installed the multiplayer, and xwis client and I am in an empty lobby. Why does the download require a cs degree to get it to work?  When I install from disc it just works.

It sounds like u r logging in with the incorrect password.

You can check the password to your nicknames at

Use your forum name and password to log in, the check the 'game password' for your red alert 2 nicknames

Thank you; that did it, although I was logging in all along with the same password that now doesn't work and it won't let me get another one because it says my nick is already registered.  Well at least it works.

That happened because the password system was changed a few years ago, but all accounts that were already set up continued to work as they were. When re-installing many users first encounter the user control panel

It is useful but not that easy to get started with
