Hi guys, 

 

Recently got a new Laptop. It has Windows 8.1 so i am struggling to get the game running. I've read some of the other threads but i have no idea what is going on.

So would appreciate it if someone can talk me through it. Thanks

 

1. Will i need a new Serial? I already purchased 2, i'm not getting another one

 

2. What files do i  need to download again? (Do i need WOLAPI etc.)

u download the game from here or from cd ? whats the Point where u struggle what erroe message u get ?

You don't need a new serial. You don't need WOLAPI (maybe Olaf or some mod should annotate that it's just there for archival reasons).

I thought that windows 8 didnt work old c&c games 8.1 might work idk.

Hi.

 

I am running it on Windows 8.1.

 

I can only see the background and not the cursor, menu buttons and animation. 

 

So i can press blindly but i have no idea what i'm doing. except guessing.

It's the same for RA2

I downloaded the file, however it does not allow me to extract/copy or move them anywhere - let alone into the game folder

Hm thats weird it works for me.
Try downloading it again and/or extracting it to the desktop first (extracting directly into program files might be problematic because of permissions). Maybe temporaily try to disable avast.

Ok i managed to download the files and place them in the relevant folder.

However it's still not working..

I cant see the Menu buttons like normal - however now i can't even press them by guessing

I have a new laptop with windows 8.1 and I can run ra2. It runs slower than it should considering my pc specs but it runs. Firstly, whilst I did do what Shield posted above with the display properties although I'm not sure that it made any difference.

I also run ra2 in compatibility for xp sp3.

However the thing that fixes the blank screen problem is the tibsunwin8fix. http://tore.cnc-comm.com/TS_Win8fix.zip

Download and extract into your red alert 2 folder, you should now be able to see menus. They will disappear when you type 'hires' at the main menu and you will have to guess your way around in order to change your reso. However once you've done this you can close ra2 and from then on it will function semi properly (there are still issues which are annoying as hellbut you'll get used to that).

I'm pretty fucking smashed so I hope this makes sense.

I've tried, still doesnt work.

 

I manage to get the games and the Resolution fix. Single player works perfect.

 

Just multiplayer freezes on the main screen
