In general a crash can be diagnosed by going to your install folder and opening a text file called - help me here - Excludes.txt I think (just reinstalled my game, it hasnt crashed yet so I dont have the file)

 

if you run your game in compatibility mode for windows 98 that tends to solve SOME crashing issues.
