Maybe a silly question, but I hadn't seen anything after googling and searching through the forums. When my friend or I try to create a multiplayer game while we're using a hires, or a custom resolution in ra2md.ini, when the other tries to join it says 'the screen resolution is limited' and forces them to use 640x480. When we create a game, the option to check/uncheck "limit screen resolution' is disabled, so we can't even change that (and it's set to 'no' in the .ini file anyway.)

Is there any way to fix this, or is running at 1024 just an accepted thing?

Ah, thanks. Then I'm back to the Win 8 problems thread; if I use the xwis patch, I get no menus.

(Even with compat mode, dpi settings, etc on all the exes)

Only the original CD versions are known to function on Windows 8.

You should search for the 'QM resolution patch'.

PS: I know exactly where you can find it, but I'm not allowed to post a link to it.

I'll try that. (for what it's worth, I'm on Origin, which works fine, although I do have my original... 13 year old disks, if they even work.)

It's best to use the CD versions, with some added on patches.

You'll run into less problems with those.

But you need...

  • No-CD patch.
  • resolution patch.
  • Maps and auto ss patch.

That's basically what the Origin verion is isn't it?

As far as I'm aware ( from reading through help threads and solving people's problems through team viwer ) It seems to be similar to the TFD version.

It's modified in some ways, I'm not too sure in what ways, but using patches like your ones or my ones seem to affect it differently then the original 2 CD version.

Also I've noticed that the TFD version and the origin version seem to have slight differences as well, besides the directory paths they use I can't be specific about the changes.

They must have the source code. There is no way EA is going to hex edit those shitty old games. Who came up with "the code is lost", Olaf?

Post the make of your graphics card? You can use a program called "gpu-z" to find out.

its a NVidia GeForce 210, cheap 30$ card. at the main menu I can type hires and it works, I can set the rez in the options.

games off of origin

the game runs on custom rez single player, it only happens on multiplayer. forcing me to change to default rez " this game requires a resolution of 640x.... do you want to change now? yes no" if I host I can keep my rez, but to join it changes

now im getting a reconnection error with my friend, ive opened all the ports so im guessin its him. it was working just fine, but then the last 3 games im getting this error...

It's the game's files that are causing this error. I suggest you turn off UAC ( only if you have a internet security program ) as older C&C games don't have a good compatibility with that feature of windows.

For the resolution problem you need the "QM resolution patch" or you can install the "RA2 Update" from http://www.xwis.net/d

Both of those should fix that problem, the resolution patch is solely for fixing that, the RA2 Update contains other features and updates for your game.

Try to use one of those and let us know how it went. I use GF220 myself.. Not a single problem on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
