I've loved this game since young and you lot are awesome for patching it but haven't seen anything for Win8

Here's a solution to run on windows 8:-

Create a shortcut to the Game.exe, goto properties and in 'Target' add .exe'' -win *Remeber the space and outside quotations

This runs the game in windows mode and stops the menu freezes

In the same Properties Tab:

Compatibility : Win Xp Service pack 2 (Seems to be most stable)

Reduced colour mode : 16bit

Run as Administrator

Where the game.exe is located in programme files there is a SUN.ini file type (configuration file) of 1kb, EDIT this at the video section change it from 800 by 640 to 1280 by 1024 (Aka your resolution). NB . If your game crashes alot, reduce this resolution slightly from 1280 to 1250, 1024 to 994

(Trouble may arise to save this for administrator, make a copy in your documents then edit, then paste back into file and override admin)

Download the graphics path from http://www.stuffhost.de/files/cnc/ and patch as instructed

Download http://bitpatch.com/ddwrapper.html zip file and extract files in documents:-

ddrawl.dll - Move this to the same folder that has Game.exe in

aqrit.cfg - Edit with notepad and turn on ( replace 0 with 1) the following options:

NoVideoMemory = 1

forcedirectdrawemulation = 1

Save+Copy this new file to folder with Game.exe in

Run from shortcut and they need you commander! Kane Lives!

Done!

I hope this helps anyone and saves them searching time!

If anyone needs help just pm me  :rizla:

About the two patches u list above...do they work with XTS version of TS?

EDIT:
@Olaf/Sean/Mole/Bluebala It would be awesome if the XWIS TS version included the above patches, from wht I hear they do improve game performance considerably and dont cause NODLaser internal errors unlike the current XWIS version.

This actually seems to be working somewhat for yuris (probably ra2 as well)

I currently use the XWIS version, I think they would but copyright issues might be involved @MrFrodo

How well does it work for Yuri's Revenge?

I haven't been able to connect to anyone online, but it'd be nice if someone else could try it out. It's a little flaky too though, but the no-menu problem is fixed at least and I was able to play skirmish games. Here's the topic I've made detailing the steps a little more clearly for yuri's/ra2 http://xwis.net/forums/index.php/topic/178729-windows-8-fix-for-ra2yuris/

I like how you steal OP's post and make it to  your own in RA2 forums, crisis. Please test and make sure the solution is valid before publishing.

Thank You op for this fix. i will try it out 1 day.

I specifically mentioned I took it from the Tiberian Sun forums, I also specifically mentioned that I only tried this offline. Why wouldn't I take a post, make it better, and benefit the rest of the community? Also, it fixed the no-menu issue which was the biggest problem with RA2/Yuris, so the post was productive either way. Thanks for being a dick though.

this doesnt work

Which part did you achieve?

Common Errors with Windows 8:

Main Menu not working/seen - Run in Windows Mode ( -win)

Game plays but lags when I move mouse - Force Emulation and NoVideoMemory

Game errors - Run as Administrator

Hope this helps

If you look in the directory of your game in C/User/Programme Files.

In the tiberian sun folder there should be a ''Game.exe'' send that to desktop (Make shortcut)

Right Click -> Properties -> Target ''File Directory'' -win

Hey friends, decided to come back to play a few games but apparently windows 8 is tricky. I have the first decade copy and tried everything. I also tried downloading olaf's copy of ts and tried everything there as well. Is it a lost hope for windows 8? Is there any miraculous downloadable version that will work without 500 patches and compatibility changes?

Hi.

Dled from cnc-comm

Changed all properties in the exe

Applied all patches and changed all values

Game loads up to menu screen, I click skirmish, menu disappears, and nothing else changes. Can still move mouse. Anyone know what to do?

NoVideoMemory = 1

forcedirectdrawemulation = 1

I also suggest using the following.

ColorFix  = 1 ;Fixes colouring errors where everything turns into a rainbow.
DisableHighDpiScaling = 1 ;The game doesn't support DPI scaling.
SingleProcAffinity = 1   ;reduces crashes on some set-ups.

Disable the graphics patcher patch that you downloaded from stuffhost.de and applied to game.exe, that's the one that causes the menu to disappear.

Also add the following entires to ts.ini (if there is one) under the [video] section.

AllowVRAMSidebar=no
VideoBackBuffer=no

I can give you a 100% working fix for windows 8.

Ill require 2-3 hours of research.

Time = Money

$100/hr

You don't pay till it's tested. Xwis can hold funds to be released to me with a 10% charity to xwis + paypal fees.
