Okay... I swear I've lurked everywhere and cannot find the maps for RA2 where in game it says something like check westwood.com for all maps blah blah. Where can I download these maps?

Maps like Tour of Egypt, Heck Freezes Over 4 Corners, etc. Basically all the maps that come standard in RA2YR but not in RA2.

They're part of XWIS RA2 Update: http://xwis.net/forums/index.php/topic/177134-downloads/

I've downloaded that in the past and when try to load RA2, it won't start up. I'm using the game menu from the C&C: The First Decade I bought. Any ideas?

How long did you wait? The RA2 update patch, which automatically updates when you start RA2, can take a while when it's updating.

I can't start the game from the first decade menu - I click on RA2 and it does nothing. I go into the RA2 directory and double click on Red Alert 2, I wait about 15 seconds, then I get this error, "Main executable for Red Alert 2 has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Also, I am running Windows XP and can play RA2 online no problems without the update installed.

Which operating system are you using? If Win 7, right-click 'Red Alert 2' and click 'Run as administrator'.

*EDIT: Oh oops, I didn't read your full post, didn't read the Win XP part :p. I suggest to just use your TFD version for single-player use, and download the xwis multiplayer-only version from Support > Downloads (at top of page).

I uninstalled the TFD version and just finished installing the multiplayer-only version and installed the map pack. I still get the same error :\

Hmmm... I'm just gonna load up my Win XP virtual machine and see if I can help you further (as I haven't used XP in years!)

No need to install map pack when you've got the MP only version.

Okay so I uninstalled everything and only installed the MP only version and I get the same error. The game tries to load for about 10-15 seconds then crashes.

Sorry but all I can think of is to run in Win 98 / Win ME compatibility mode and set your display to 16bit color.

Does it provide any details?
