HI

I'm a returning member (Bobtb001 or 7 Cant remember) and got a new computer windows 7

Loaded all the patches that I thought I am supposed to load but when I go to start the game I get the above notice

What are my next steps?

Cheers

Russ

Hmmmm

Game wont boot up at all.

I noticed it didnt boot up after I loaded patches but thought that may be resolved with Olaf's advice.

Have now right clicked run as administrator and run in XP SP3 compatibility mode but game still wont boot

Would it be worth to uninstall re-install?

Cheers for your help

Russ

Your game is probably auto-updating. Starting up RA2/YR takes a little longer when auto-updating.

Delete the game directory, then install just http://xwis.net/downloads/Red-Alert-2-Multiplayer.exe

Do you mean the entire westwood file or just the folder called RA2?

Unless you're playing other Westwood games you can delete the entire Westwood folder.

Done all the same things you mentioned above, got it to work on one computer in the house, but on the laptop, keep getting the message above. I double click the Red Alert.exe icon and nothing happens except a little error message box pops up that says TXT_SHORT_TITLE across the top of it, and says TXT_PREPARECOM_FAILED inside the box. Am I supposed to have a disk in? I thought the whole point was to allow me to play without a disk.

And, when I try to follow the Windows 7 instructions, it does not take me to a download link, it just brings me to this page: http://xwis.net/forums/index.php/topic/173834-running-command-and-conquer-on-windows-7/#entry1498109 and the first thing on that page is a link called Download: Red Alert 2 Multiplayer Installer. which takes me to this page: http://xwis.net/forums/index.php/files/file/8-red-alert-2-multiplayer/ which I cannot find any download link on anywhere. Is there a link to download the windows 7 version that I am missing?

http://xwis.net/downloads/Red-Alert-2-Multiplayer.exe is the direct link... it's the same for XP/vista/7/whatever

dont forget to run as administrator on the laptop too. and make sure you run the newly installed game, not some leftover old copy

and no, there's no need to have any kidn of disc inserted with that version.
