Hello Olaf & XWIS Team

 

I am xezon, staff member of gamereplays.org and developer of GenTool for C&C Generals.

 

I would like to ask you if you have any plans in extending XWIS to support C&C Generals, Zero Hour, C&C 3 Tiberium Wars, Kanes Wrath, C&C Red Alert 3 and C&C 4 in case GameSpy shuts down their servers, which is likely to happen very soon. If you are indeed thinking about such an extension that would be amazing for all players of above titles. However if you are not, we would try to look at and investigate other solutions with our inferior knowledge.

 

It would be great to hear back from you.

After all you bring nothing new, EA used to shut old games servers when they release a new similar one just to increase their sales, for the poor players they can drink from sea.

How many people play Ra2/YR on Gamespy? Wouldn't it be worth trying to get them here or something?

Hi xezon,

I hadn't yet realized this might affect C&C MP services. Any word from EA on this?
I don't yet have plans to support more recent games, as they use a completely different protocol AFAIK.

I did not see a public announcement by EA, and it is not unlikely there won't be.

 

Please let us know if you have any plans in the future.

 

Currently we are in a process of brainstorming, researching and collecting data while the servers are still online. We have serious interest to provide a new server if GameSpy shuts down.

GameSpy hosted a lot of games, didn't they? I kinda expected an official statement from them too, they must've had contracts for all this stuff that they can't just terminate.

Yea I also thought they just refer to their GameSpy news writing Team but not the servers. However someone with a link to EA said something and now we want to be prepared at least. The forum is not visible until the admins unlock you. Whenever that will be, you will be informed.
