as far as I know it should work?
you could download gameranger and play on that ... when choosing the directory for how to start ra2 if using the ra2 MP patch you MAY need to change the red alert 2.exe file to "ra2.exe" (maybe) and select that instead.
Game ranger is free

Gameranger is free, here on Xwis, the pro's play. If you want to have fun, go to GR, if you are persistant, keep it to this site.
To be clear, Xwis tends to be cheatfree, and Gameranger is Texas in Gaming land. If you want to get skill, you should prefer Xwis over GR and keep on playing after a loss.

not true.
There must be a easier way to get xwis working on lan rather than downloading and signing up to something else [gameranger]?!!?

Here you go, just download this and copy into the ra2 folders you wanna play LAN through:
http://www.moddb.com/games/cc-red-alert-2/downloads/ra2yr-lan-fix-xp-vista-w7-x86-x64
Then just start ra2 up and it should all work fine, no extra work needed. Ive done this several times myself, works perfectly every time.
So basicly just download it, copy the file into all the ra2 folders you wanna run ra2 on, overwrite if it asks. Then start ra2 up and it will work LAN. Also ofcourse you need to let firewall pass ra2.
Just wanted to add that you can use the ra2 from this site and just copy the file into the same folder as the ra2. No futher modifications or hassle required. Except maybe some work with the firewall, letting ra2 pass.

Hmm I might be wrong, but I don't think Drasten's solution will work with the RA2 you download from this site. You'll need a full RA2 installation in order to play over LAN. Feel free to try though...

No it doesnt work hence why i put "If i install the wsock32.dll the game just doesnt open". wsock32.dll does work in the normal RA2 folder not the one downloaded from this site and the problem with the standard RA2 files is you cant get 1080 even if you edit the ra2.ini

If i good understand, you need rename Red Alert 2.exe -> game.exe

if you can get a hold of moret or littldot on this forum they have a site where u can download another version of ra2 which works with ra2.ru server which will allow u to play lan games without serials.
ah nvm there's more there play on his server lol
