For tournament purposes, the maps shouldn't be a rushing map, probably Symmetrical for the most part unless both sides have exact money and techs. Decent size, nice expansions and enough pathways to encourage splits.

have you ever seen my build on OFF B? it's a naval stretch blow bridges type game, this is very common if xwis was full of players, you always have the problem with stretch, stale mates ect on OFF B

What are the 5 most "fair" maps in the game? Like, if this game was played for money, what 5 maps would be the most competitive for people to test their skills?
Surely some version of heck would be in there. I think its best map by far. But other then that????
What is fair about cave heck vs topleft? What is fair about heck bottomright vs midleft? I can continue but the first post you start your topic with missed the point.
dry heat
Dry heat midleft vs midright is broken.
Off t A seems pretty fair. Off t B aswell.

i dont do this and i do a fair job vs marko a v s, or as soviet vs frank, jus cant sell
snow valley, heck, caverns, tour of egypt, official b, tikal, south pacific, gsf, gsv, meat grinder, arctic
toe and gsf is bad a v s, and meat grinder kinda jus sucks
wouldnt say tikal is good since its always same buildorder there no matter what, not enough gold in that map.
tikal is a pretty standard map but i think its atleast "balanced" which i think was main Q, but yah i agree BO is p;retty much same.

GSF? Yes except for TL vs BR
Dry Heat?? TL gems sux
SP?? Left side dominates
Yellowstone? Sux bottom dominates
I would say -
Offi B
Offi A
Tikal
Heck RvR / BvB / TvT
Morning Tide
Paris TL vs BR
Snow Valley ( okay fair enough but TL vs BR w/o glitches )
Poltergeist
Cold war ( except for BL )
Heartland TR vs BL
Tour of Egypt
Lakeside Plateus
Caverns of Siberia ( dunno actually but guess its a cool allied map )
City under Siege ( not loved by much but 100% fair )

Off the top of my head:
Snow valley is perfect for it. Allied and soviets seem evenly matched, with tons of strategy/splits coming into play. No tech buildings and no massive gems in middle causing the game to be lopsided either way.
Stormy weather would be an interesting map. Completely fair, permitting the players take even derricks in the middle, it's good for allieds and soviets. Navy is obviously in play, but doesn't auto win the game since you can destroy dreds/aircraft easy with tanks. I think I would choose it as one.
Dry heat - I love this map on yr. On ra2, it's great as well. The gems being 'off balance' is generally no problem for me wherver spot I am. I've had great battles on this game, one could certainly benefit from a 3-war sell mcv type style, but it can also be stopped by a turtling deso player (latof on dry heat anyone?) The big issue for tournament play here is that the allieds faction would be at a strong disadvantage. Likely would not work.
Country Swing - The ultimate in identical B.O. Works well with allieds or soviets, overall is a fair map (maybe bottom is better, but not by much). A 'classic' style of gameplay here, and I would throw it in as one of the five maps.
Heartland - Classic, same as Country Swing, just a great map for allieds or soviets. Can't go wrong with it.
Just to throw it out there: Isle of war would be interesting. Good for allieds and soviets, it brings different strategy to the table. Probably not one of the top 5, but it's a different choice.
Heck is great.... but it would mean certain starting points and less gems, which is not in the spirit of this topic. We are looking for the best 5 current maps.
TOE is simply too unbalanced AvS to include it.
I'm too unfamilar with the new maps to include them.
As marsh stated, official tournament map B has the problem of ending up to laming strategy. Base trade, naval stretch, happens at least 25% of the games I play there vs. top players.

Anyhow, symmetrical maps like tourny B, A, cs, gsf, stormy weather, sv with bugs fixed. Cold War I like, not sure really.
Not many of the maps are perfectly balanced.
