That are balanced, but not mirrored, for instance.

One side derricks one gems.

Somebody starts with less money but better positioning.. Etc

I'd do it but idk how to make maps and I don't have time to learn

Gems would let you fast tech to supers and win a lot easier IMO. So the gems vs oils thing doesn't work out. It's too IMBA.

things like this can always get balanced, for example, if one team has the gems, then the gems can be placed pretty far off their starting location, but still on their side.

It just doesn't work in reality. Gems will always trump oils and if the map is very big the oils will trump gems.

It's just not a fair setup, also it doesn't make the game play more interesting. The layout of the map's terrain is what makes it interesting and is what designs the game play of the map.

So instead I would suggest for people to come up with interesting layouts for maps and post them for map makers to make them.

Some non traditional layouts like DistantQ's Urban Marine and my own Alaskan Outback. These maps offer multiple bo's strategies and play styles, because of their layouts.

Wow Martin totally biased! I'm sure it's not totally balanced only for noobs maybe. That's why we have no cool maps, nobody understands how to balance maps without it being mostly mirrored. I love the "it can't be done so forget it" answer

I have tried to make balanced, asymetrical maps with yellowstone, tiger bay and caverns of siberia. Its not easy and mostly people believe they are totally unfair despite your best efforts. I have however noticed one new aspect of westwoods classic maps i intend to incorperate into my next map- but im not telling what it is! :pimp:
