Quick-Match Renovation - 2011 December


A much needed revamp for the QM has been set into motion

and the following settings and maps have been decided on.

The new map pool is as follows.


A proposed map pool personalization system


A player will be able to pick 5-7 maps from the set standard QM maps list to not include in their map pool

while matching. This means that they will never get matched on any of the 5-7 maps they unticked in their map settings.

The server will just pick maps randomly from the remaining map pool in accordance with both player's preferences.

Thus matching speed nor activity will be affected.



This is currently a work in progress and all the changes are being discussed by the community.

I don't get why so many of the maps are "mirror matches only" now. Most of them are fine SvA (except Urban and Off A which are not even mirrored???)

Also, why are Pinch Point and DC Uprising still in?!

Pinch point should stay as standard.

Removing DC Uprising as a standard map sounds good.

The super weapon changes are great!

What's the reasoning behind Tournament Q being mirrored? What faction has the major advantage on this map.

Pinch point is staying as standard...

We'll try to cram it in with the next update. Just post all ideas and suggestions related to QM map pool and map settings here.

A reasonable explanation with a problem and solution basis should be used.

It is mirrored because of the allied tanya being able to insta blow up bridges.
( Wasn't my idea to mirror it, I'd play both sides on it mirrored or not )

This is a player skill preference issue.
I personally like having soem AvS matches on this and so do some other allied players, mason, alex, frank, dave.

It's pretty even if a proper BO is used IMO. Though it's not really a favourite.

It still requires skill to not make that one mistake, also I've had some great games on this. It's pretty even and a classic QM map.

i think heartland shud be Tr vs BL or mirror only, because tl vs bl allied is freewin.

golden state fwy shud be mirror.

Tourny A shud be mirror

Twin peaks should be mirror.

Alaskan outback shouldnt be mirror.

bullrun shouldnt be mirror.

tournament map Q shouldnt be mirror.

arden shouldnt be mirror

I agree on Heartland being mirrored. Being an Allied player myself.
Same on GSF, Tourny A and Twin peaks.

Also on the non mirrored settings. As at the very high levels of play those maps are relatively even and the results are based on player's skill level.

I do agree on TOE being mirrored as a Sov rush on that is quite over powered.

Mirror match changes for heartland and GSF are removed, mainly because heartland just has one unfair position as allied and as soviet rush is defendable.

Also the GSF match-up is debatable, allied players just need an aggressive approach to counter the soviets.
It's a good challenge that tests allied players well, which is the reason why I removed the change.

IMO (I'm allied player):
- SW should be ALWAYS random
- Urban rush is hard for allies, yes, but it gives GGs AvS (if mid structures are shared)
- H&S... Sovs can rush allies (especially when allies are TL - or sovs go 2 rhinos to harrass everything and 3 miners from war for example), they can go for dread or IC... and it isn't „op”?
- City under siege... most people say it's allied map, i have no idea why - in AvS Sov can easily take all his and 1 enemy's bunker and limit allied basewalk or just camp with buildings and desos and rush for apocs and cloning vats. Any way to stop that?
- Arden river... allies are overpowered, allies can camp? Sovs are better campers - desos, few sentries, few tanks and even miners - everything can stop allied plastic units. With SW always on just camp, rush for IC, gg.
- Little big bay... AvS was always good
- TOE - AvS was always good, rush can be stopped (or even soviets can be rushed by allies with ifv, tanks, rockies)
- Twin peaks... again, it's hard, but playable AvS (but hard... :D )
- Urban marine revisited mirror only? Why?
- Blablabla, etc, etc.
+ I'd like to see many, many, many more maps in QM! Remove 5 nobody likes and add 20 nobody knows :p It will be fresh breath, variety of BOs, not 2/each map (at least at start), maybe some new tactics or ways to surprise top players...

coming from someone who qm's a lot and likes to play urban and off a, don't mirror those only please, you take the fun out of it for allied players who actually enjoy challenges by sovs on small maps, if it's switched to mirror only, i'll quit qming because you are baby proofing qm.

edit : can me just deleting the patch fix the issue of how you're ****ing up qm? if so i'll delete to get my regular style games and not this lame ****.

why dont you just start a tourny game if you're fed up with the options in qm? back in the day even the crates where on.. its a *quick* game, this means that it is a game of the game regardless its options, started as quickly as possible....


imo --> play tourny and/or clanners.

I agree about Urban, but at the same time a pure soviet rush on it is overpowered.
Yet I am changing it to non mirrored to keep the challenge for allied players, like myself.

When you see a player going apocs and vats. Why are you not making multiwarf and mass prism tanks?

Twin peaks is very hard allied vs soviet. The sovs will have full reign over the middle gems.

Urban marine is a map that favours soviets quite a lot unless you're very good as Korea.

Those settings were changed, because it's debatable. I enjoy playing allied on urban and tourny a too.
I managed to beat Tomi's sovs on tourny a with America.

The super weapons settings can not be added at the moment, because the server does not support such settings.

I agree on Tournament map Q being mirrored, but the outback mirroring is debatable, thus I'm leaving that as standard for now.

i also support mirror match for tour Q but i would personally prefer outback not be mirrored.

i think a renovation is a good idea however i think you have to go back and question your motives, are u trying to balance it? Bring variety? Whats your main aim here?

you wanted to remove dc uprising because its unfair, yet you left pinch and avs maps like urban because you llike the challenge i like what your trying to do but your personal opinions are not the voice of the whole community, i would suggest making poll's and asking the whole community's opinion?

it makes no sense in my opninion to remove dc uprising and keep pinch yes pinch can be done and its a challenge but the same goes for dc uprising, you should try eliminating any maps that give a serious disadvantage to 1 player first off so remove pinch, dc, i would say anytown amerika but i think thats just yr? after that look at infuriating maps such as isle of war, i see its mentioned as supers always on, i agree with this because it turns into a ridicolous campfest if its not. They are the main three that need addressed. I would also propose the removal of alamo simply because of the unbalance here but thats my opninion dont know if others would agree, The 1 i just dont understand is why toe is mirrored only as both sovs and allies can be pretty even here.

Orwellian game balancing will not encourage anyone to repopulate the server imo.

People expect to play the game they took home in the box.

What next, an anti-fodder mod? ;)

Good work, don't get me wrong... but there is a disproportionate amount of effort suddenly going into what a small % of people feel is 'balancing'.

There are so many things broke that need fixing.... :(

But - fair play to you - at least you aren't doing nothing. You're preserving the game for the last few players and if they all want to start changing the rules after 10 years of it... fine.

Fog Hack affects balance too. You goimg to make the auto ss patch a requirement for online play? Because many will say (and I'll agree) that you don't care about balance, WHATEVER you say, unless you do that 1st. But too many 'top' players will cry like beaches.......

Just my 2 cents.
