Laptop: Dell XPS L702X

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 550M

WIN7 64 bit

All drivers up-to-date.

I have RA2 installed but have to alt tab out and back in again to see any buttons. If I want to go to the internet on RA2 I have to click where I know the button is, alt tab out, go back into RA2 and it will appear. Almost like I need to refresh the screen by alt tab'ing out.

Tried both CD and MP install. Compatibility tried, and running as admin.

No results, a bit stumped.

a lot of people with windows 7 have this problem, try changing your graphics settings to maximum and stuff in your control panel, it MIGHT work.

also you can change your resolution i believe, that has helped other people with same problem

32 bit? Try these drivers and see if disabling UAC and downloading directx components from microsoft helps.

Looks like mobile nV graphics are a common theme in these failures. Did anyone tried to contact nVidia?

I doubt. I recommended modified graphics drivers for a reason. Which might solve the problem as they are not from nvidia and contain a good few bug fixes.

I use them myself for my GF8800 GTX. I get better image quality in game and smoother performance.

Hi, I have XPS L701X win 7 64 bit with nvidia GeForce GT445M. I have set compatibility to vista (service pack2) and run in admin. In nvidia control panel go to display, adjust desktop size and position, then select use nvidia scaling with fixed-aspect ratio.

This works for me.

Ah OK, I don't have that option but I'm searching google on it, might have found some alternative drivers. Thank you for the reply, will let you know how it turns out.

Alright there's a little work around as a temporary way to play.

For win 7:

1. Change from 32bit colour to 16bit in display properties.
2. Go to start > in the search type run

3. Add in "C:\Program Files\Red Alert 2\game.exe"-win

Obviously change the directory to where you have ra2 installed.

So loading up RA2 should be: start > typing into the search 'run' > (to which what we entered above should be saved) hit enter, and there you have it.

You then click the desktop and back on RA2 to refresh the screen. Essentially alt-tabing but within a click and much quicker/hassle free.

Also hypercam recording in windows mode helps quite a bit (saves you clicking on desktop)

sounds like a bad work around, are you going to keep trying to fix it or are you going to jus use this?

oh i researched it for a few hours and on a 1 or 2 of the 50 forums i looked at they posted an actual technical reason for it not working, i cant remember what that reason was but its been posted before, and i couldnt tell you if that reason was accurate or not either though.

I am trying to help someone fix this same issue. He has a HP Pavilion DV6 notebook running win 7 64 bit home premium, i5-2430m@2.4ghz, 6gb ram, radeon HD 6490m graphics card. I have tried all compatibility modes with admin. I have tried changing resolution of screen, colour from 32bit to 16bit, playing from decade disk and downloading from game from this site. I have tried all of thee above except the direct draw as i cannot locate it.

The only thing I can think of is for him to upgrade windows to professional or ultimate as they have a xp mode for older programs/ games. Home Premium doesn't have this.

If anyone finds the fix please let me know
