http://xwis.net/temp/Red_Alert-2-0.0.2.exe

This *might* fix the freeze at exit issue.

Freeze at exit? What do you mean?

Is there a fix for the freeze that occurs when players bail or fail to connect in Qm? I have to Ctrl+Alt+Delete like 67 times a day when Qm'ing :/

Most likely to fix the freeze which happens on Windows Vista and 7 when you close the game.

Is it a full install of the game or just a patch?

So it's no-cd compatible, just tested instead of asking. As a note to anyone who might wonder.

Is this map patch compatible though? As in will the patch still update when the game is launched through this.

Works perfectly on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit!

Nice work as always, been waiting for this fix for a long while now. I'm very grateful.

Maybe, if you copy Red Alert 2.exe to Game.exe.
So can anyone confirm that this fixes the exit issue?

I just confirmed it! Didn't you read my post? :p

Do you mean rename Red Alert 2.exe to Game.exe?

PS: Shouldn't you have posted this in the news section? This is quite deserving of that!

I did, but then you edited it...
Renaming instead of copying works too.

Haven't posted in news yet as it's kinda experimental.

My bad, should have guessed.

I thought that's what you meant, even though I instantly copied everything from the installation folder to the default RA2 directory @ C:\Westwood\RA2.
How come you have the install folder set to C:\Program files\Red Alert 2?

That's the dir the MP only version uses too. Program Files is the right dir for programs.

Indeed it is the right directory for programs, but most of the people would still have it in the default RA2 directory.
Also there are not that many tech savy organized computer users on this site, so your .exe can cause some confusion considering it doesn't even add a desktop shortcut.
This confusion might also be the cause of the first ''it doesn't work'' replay we got in this topic. ¬_¬ You shouldn't overestimate the intelligence of the average computer user.

Good point, it'd be nice if the actual dir was read from the registry.

Do you mean by the installer? Doesn't RA2 keep it's directory in the registry? As far as I know the internet components part in the registry does ''hint'' to the directory it's installed at.
Been a long time since I checked, so I'm not 100% certain.

Edit: RA2 Just stopped responding on exit. Worked fine on first test I did.

I have my music volume at 0 usually. I only put it up when I want to listen to my custom sound track that I added with the xcc mixer. :matrix:

Install this into your game dir. Then use the new start menu shortcut (or start Red Alert 2.exe manually).

There's no need to remove the original game.exe.

if i start Red Alert 2.exe directly, i get the same. The process just hangs for a couple seconds and closes itself again. Im using your downloaded version btw, don't know if that matters.
