Are you tired of the 800 x 600 resolution the game gives you? Tired of the game FORCING you to change to 640 x 480 by some idiot or quickmatch? Then this thread is for you. You can set your game to ANY resolution you want, making that 6 monitor setup viable for this game.

First step: GET THE HIGH RES PATCH:
RA2: http://xhp.xwis.net/utilities/RA2_User_Patch.zip (User Patch, High res patch included)
YR: http://www.mediafire.com/?ztlimz3io1n
TS: Not needed

You are not done yet though. This patch skips the 640 x 480 requirement. It does not give you high resolutions.

Now we are going to edit a files.
Open up:
RA2.ini for RA2
RA2MD.ini for YR
SUN.ini for TS

Put this under the VIDEO tag:
[Video]
ScreenWidth=insert width here
ScreenHeight=insert height here
StretchMovies=yes
AllowHiResModes=yes

You now have a high resolution game! Enjoy.

Bugs:
Maps smaller then the screen res will create graphical errors. Funny Big Map and it's variations are the main problem. Nothing major though, you can still play the game unaffected.
I have 1440 x 700 resolution, some resolutions may cause problems. I do not know of any, I am just warning you.
RA2 title screen will not stretch to fit the screen. YR does, but it is in 1024x768 until you start playing a game.

on ra2 and yr you can just type in 'hires' on the main menu and when you go into options, all available resolutions are available ;/

Any resolutions not supported by the monitor gives problems, not really a bug.

YR title screen is 1024x768.

The maximum I had with that was 1220 x 680. This allows you to set the game at ANY resolution you want.

Oh yeah, thanks for that. Updated post.

If you take a look at the edge of that, you will see the graphic problems I was talking about. The tiles repeat at the edge of the map, this looks ugly, but you can play the game just fine.

Never mind, Added to OP.

I can't edit my post, I get a database error screen.

Also, it would be nice if an admin could sticky this so everyone can enjoy high res C&C.

So I am trying to figure out how to upload this patch... is this patch not required with the download version put here by the admins?

http://xwis.net/downloads/Red-Alert-2-Multiplayer.exe

In the readme file for the high res user patch it says

"Copy game.exe to game.exe.bak.
Rename ra2.exe to ra2.exe.bak.
Unzip ZIP to RA2 dir.
Run RA2 User Patch."

and I am not finding the .bak extensions they are referring to.  The game does run well but is boxed at whatever the original resolution is...

Thanks in advance!

if you use the xwis version of ra2 the high res mode is automatically enabled and the resolution will default to your desktop setting

Yet, for some reason it still keeps the resolution limit set by Westwood on XWIS?
