Best Answer FReQuEnZy, 05 June 2014 - 04:52 PM

Just copy movies, maps, theme .mix files from your cd to the game directory, to enable the campaign, in game music and the videos.

Try lowering the resolution, worked for me! Download this:

http://www.obelisk.ro/apps/YuriScreenResolution.zip?attredirects=0

Install and put in ra2 map folder. Start the program and try ALL the resolutions to see which works.

(The program is made to make it easy to change in-game resolution.)

Did you install it as an administator? Uninstall then reinstall as admin.

you dont have to install it as an administrator just run it as admin when you go to play it. Left click on desktop icon and run as admin. I had/have a problem with mine if I don't do this (the game won't load period) but if you do this it should work

you may need to get a different graphics card, there pretty cheap on ebay, most older ones will do fine, and when your tired of using the old graphics card, just turn it off in the system bios, and it will revert back to your integrated graphics card (intel)

I would suggest installing windows XP on a seperate harddisk and running RA2 from there. There are other problems associated with windows 7 and RA2. If you decide to do this you will need to disconnect your windows 7 harddisk while you setup XP otherwise you'll encounter problems during setup. Once done you can reconnect it. You shouldn't have any problems after that.

My graphics card is a Gigabyte (Nvidia) Geforce GTX 580 and runs RA2 on windows 7 but it works better on XP.
Plus you can exit without using task manager.

In a laptop?

He doesn't say it's a laptop but I've just looked up the graphics card which is for a laptop.
It would've been easier if he'd said that at the start.

I'm assuming you're using Windows 7? All I had to do was run it as administrator. If that doesn't work right click on the desktop icon and go to properties. Then click on the "compatability" tab. You should have everything unchecked in this tab (of course I bought the First Decade game set so it might not work for you). That's all I got

In a laptop?

he didnt say it was a laptop, no-one is paying me to look up different hardware setups on different computers.

is still think this is a problem with the refresh rate, because your system is able to take ss of the menu, but it just cant display it when you launch the game. anyways, good luck on figuring it out.

I have this problem too. No music or movies and when I try to load the singleplayer campaign, it says "Unable to read scenario". Halp? I really enjoy the music/movies, and also want to replay the campaign a bit.

I'm on Windows 7 as well with the portable version of the game installed. I was unable to apply the patch because it can't find the directory?

Button menus are also super messed up. The slider shows up far right of where it's supposed to be on the units, and when I go to change map, there is no "Use Map" button until I click on the cancel button and slide off of it. Then it changes into "Use Map".

The portable version doesn't include the single player missions, music or the in game movies.

If the patch can't find the directory then your game installation doesn't have correct registry keys.

You might need to apply windows updates. Update directx as well. Use appropriate compatibility settings.

Compatibility for game executables (all of them).

  • Windows 98 / XP
  • Disable desktop composition
  • Disable Visual Styles
  • Disable DPI scaling
  • Run as administrator

I also suggest disabling UAC (user account control) before installing the game and while running it. As a final option you can try applying the latest ra2 unofficial patch.

Ohh, I didn't know it didn't include that stuff. That's fine though, I still have the disc. So could I just install from the disc over the portable version and not install the internet components or something and it would still work on XWIS? Btw, that text thing fixed the visual errors on my game, thank you so much. (The DPI thing)
